"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."
-Nelson Mandela
For children hardly a generation removed from Apartheid, an early investment in their education could lay the foundation for a life of fulfillment and personal development.
In March, I will be traveling to Vrygrond, a township just outside of Cape Town, to volunteer in several crèches/pre-schools in dire need of resources and funding. For two weeks I will be assisting with lessons, classroom management, child care, supervision as well as working on a full renovation construction project that will move a crèche several steps closer to qualifying for governmental funding - of which they currently receive none.
I am very excited to help make positive changes in the lives of these kids (ages 6 and younger). And I'd like to share this experience with you!! On this site I will be maintaining a blog. I invite you all to check in and view posts/pictures of the children, the schools, the projects, and the people involved!
I could spout off facts and figures. Bottom line, these kids need help. Their infrastructure is not providing them with opportunities or the proper means to education. If this speaks to you and you feel you'd like to help, you can make a donation by using the paypal link to the right. Don't feel like you have to break the bank. $5 could go a long way! During this experience, I will be actively assessing the needs of the children. All the money you donate I will use to purchase materials (books, crayons, chairs, toys etc...) in shops around Cape Town that will go DIRECTLY TO THE CHILDREN! I will post photos of the purchases and of the children using them so you can see the positive effect you have on these kids!
Also feel free to use Chase quickpay: juanny5@aol.com
Or if you prefer you can donate here and Pearson will match your donation! I will not be determining where your donation goes however.
If you would like more information on the program, see the video link to the right or visit the True North website.
Whether or not you donate please do stop by and see the projects I'm working on! Thank you!
